The Unrest in Kenya

You probably heard it over the news. Another country in Africa all bloodied up. with all the violence that you consume on a daily basis it kind of de-sensitizes you. they might as well have said something about the traffic or the weather and it would have had the same emotional effect on you.  generally i was like indifferent emotionally until I checked my Kiva account!

turns out the guy I lent a loan to in Kiva to help his second had clothing store business is gone missing. It is unclear if he is still alive as his neighborhood (the slums) was burned down and he may be ...dead. hmm it sure puts it in perspective now that I (not even directly) knew of a person who is affected. 6 months ago i was reading about his business plan. he was trying to get on his own feet. now he's missing. in total 10 of the 50 kiva businesses owners in kenya are dead.

All this made me think it would be good idea if every person in the world at least know of 1 person in all other 5 continents at the same relative age group. every once in a while you would communicate, just to see how what's going on in their life.  like pen-palls. I think it would greatly reduce the gap between rich and the poor. maybe i'll make my kid have pen-palls from 5 corners of the world - when I have one that is which could be never! hehe.
